Endodontics (Root Canal Treatment)

Endodontic treatment is more commonly known as root canal treatment and is required when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth, known as pulp, is infected due to either decay, injury or infection. If the pulp becomes infected this may spread through the root canal system and eventually lead to an abscess. If untreated, the tooth may require extraction. Root canal treatment is available under the NHS and where a local anaesthetic is given the feeling is no different to having a filling.

The treatment involves the removal of all of the infection from the root canal which is then cleaned and filled to prevent any future infection. The treatment is skilled and may be time-consuming and therefore the majority of treatments may require one or more visits to your dentist.

At Plumstead Dental Surgery we have a dentist with a special interest in Endodontics meaning that we are able to treat even the trickier cases or root canal trauma or infection.
