Extractions
An extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. An extraction is needed if the tooth has been damaged by decay or has been broken. Normally the dentist will try and fix the tooth with a filling or a crown in the first instance however it is not always possible to save the tooth in which case an extraction is needed.
Local anaesthetic can be administered if an extraction is needed. This will mean that the area will be numb and the procedure should be painless. A special dressing will also be provided to protect the exposed socket should it be required.
